I can still remember the smell of formaldehyde and . . . the FROG. It was eighth or ninth grade, and we were dissecting a slimy, smelly frog.

And I loathed it.

Fast forward about 25 years, and I was reliving my high school science days with my 17-year-old son. As it turned out, he loved everything about hands-on science. Even the smell of formaldehyde and that unnerving frog didn’t bother him.

I’m happy to say that I survived the frog dissection a little better the second time around. However, I know my science-loving son would have benefited from live science labs with an experienced (and more enthusiastic) teacher.

I recently discovered a wonderful option for kids like my son to get hands-on lab experience under the direction of an experienced science teacher: College Prep Science.

The Easiest Way to Do Homeschool Science Labs

College Prep Science offers science lab intensives designed especially for Christian homeschool students. Each two-day intensive is equivalent to a full school year of science labs for grades 7-12.

Science lab intensives in Biology/Anatomy & Physiology and  Chemistry are offered at fifteen locations across the United States. Students may take one lab course in two days, or they may choose to take both courses over a three-day period.

The founder of College Prep Science is a homeschool dad with a master of science degree from Louisiana State University. He has spent more than 20 years teaching science, both to homeschool students and as a college professor.

These science lab intensives are the EASIEST way to do homeschool science labs!

  • NO preparation
  • NO supplies to order (and store!)
  • NO parental involvement necessary (in other words, you don’t have to try to figure out how to actually do the science experiments and dissections yourself—what a relief!)
  • NO trying to cram science labs into your weekly schedule—just 2 days and DONE for the year!

Why Students Need to Do Homeschool Science Labs

1. Completes required high school credits

Some states, including Pennsylvania, require lab as part of a high school science credit. Yes, labs can be done at home (like my son and I did), but College Prep Science makes it so much easier to fulfill high school lab requirements with the direction of an experienced science teacher.

2. Provides hands-on lab experience prior to college

College-bound students will have lab requirements in any science courses they take. Hands-on lab experience in high school will help prepare them for the challenges of their college science labs.

3. Encourages an interest in science

Experience with science labs may be the catalyst that awakens a student’s interest in science. Doing is very different than reading. At the very least, students will gain a deeper understanding of scientific concepts . . . and that in itself is worth the cost of the class.

4. Offers opportunity to participate in a live class

Some homeschoolers have never had the chance to be involved in a class. These lab intensives from College Prep Science provide a wonderful opportunity for homeschooled teens to enjoy learning with a group of their peers and to experience a different learning environment.
