Principles and Precepts of Economics: Homeschool Economics Curriculum

Principles and Precepts of Economics: A Homeschool Economics Curriculum from Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum

I’ve always believed that economics was a dry, boring study–especially for high school students. After all, most teenagers are primarily concerned with the amount of money in their pockets, not with how the entire American economy operates. Am I right?

Well, I have to tell you…

The study of economics does NOT have to be dry and boring. Our family has discovered a homeschool economics curriculum that makes the topic come alive and provides practical, real-life applications that teens can understand and enjoy. Yes, really.

Principles and Precepts of Economics: Homeschool Economics Curriculum

Principles and Precepts of Economics is an excellent high school elective from Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum. Using a conversational tone, the course teaches students the history of economics from ancient times through the modern day.

In addition to teaching key economic concepts, the course also emphasizes famous quotations related to government and finance. These “life principles” are interspersed throughout the text and included on quizzes, as well.

The  Principles and Precepts of Economics curriculum consists of 3 chapters, each made up of a text booklet and an activity booklet. I was especially pleased with how interesting and readable the text is–even my 14-year-old son was able to manage this high school course.

Quizzes are included for every 5 lessons, with a test at the end of each chapter (15 lessons). The Teacher’s Resource Kit includes answers for all written activities, quizzes, and tests.

What We Love About This Homeschool Economics Curriculum

1. Designed for independent learning

Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum is perfectly designed for independent learning. The text is divided into lessons which lend themselves well to daily assignments. In addition, students are able to correct the activity pages on their own–a huge plus when homeschooling a large family!

2. Interesting, easy-to-read text

I really appreciate the conversational tone of this course. It is both easy to read AND easy to understand. It actually makes a difficult topic enjoyable, which is a big win in my book!

3. Print and digital versions

Collin exclusively used the printed booklets, but PAC also offers a digital version. The digital version offers text-to-speech capabilities, a tremendous benefit for auditory learners or struggling readers.

4. Compact and portable

These compact course booklets were perfect for slipping into Collin’s student binder, allowing him to grab all his assignments and head to his room for some quiet study time. They are also super easy to take along on the road–no heavy textbooks to lug or stow under the seat. Busy families will definitely appreciate this!

5. Familiar worktext format

Collin loved that the activity booklets were set up similar to the worktext format he enjoys in his other subjects! He liked being able to read the text and work along in the activity booklet without having to flip pages or write answers on a separate sheet of paper.
