DragonBox Algebra 12+: Fun Homeschool Math App

DragonBox Algebra 12+: Fun Homeschool Math App

Math is unfortunately one of my kids’ least favorite subjects. I regularly hear one or another of them say, “I’m just not good at math.” Or, “Math is just too hard!”

Now that I have two teens who are working through algebra, I also hear the oft-repeated question: “But what will we ever use this for?”

Because of my kids’ long-standing negative relationship with math, I was thrilled to find a high-quality educational app that presents important algebra concepts in a fun and memorable way.

I received this product for free and was compensated for my time. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to post a positive review. See our Disclosure Policy for more information.

DragonBox Algebra 12+: Fun Homeschool Math App

DragonBox Algebra 12+ is a homeschool math app designed to make learning algebra concepts easy and fun.

Sound too good to be true? I can tell you without hesitation that this app delivers everything that it promises.

DragonBox Algebra 12+ makes learning algebra FUN!

About DragonBox Algebra 12+

DragonBox Algebra 12+ starts out very gently, with no numbers at all. Instead, numbers are represented by icons, and the unknown variable in the equation is represented by the “dragon box.”

Gradually, the icons and the dragon box are replaced by letters and numbers, just like typical algebraic equations. The learning process is very subtle and actually doesn’t feel like math at all. That’s a real plus for math-phobic kids like mine!

The video game format is familiar and appealing to kids, making it easier to pick up the concepts through imitation and experimentation. Skills progress in tiny steps, and learning happens naturally and painlessly.

Who Can Benefit from DragonBox Algebra 12+?

Because DragonBox Algebra 12+ allows four different player profiles, several of my kids were able to get in on the fun. Kaylee used the game as reinforcement of what she has been learning in Algebra I this year, while Keaton used it as an introduction to the topic.

The younger ones were completely enthralled with the game, asking (more than once) for a turn to play. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Weston (age 6) was able to play several rounds and actually grasp some basic algebra concepts.

Naturally, I want to encourage a love of math, so I’m already planning to purchase the DragonBox Algebra 5+ app for the younger kids to enjoy!

Learning algebra is FUN with DragonBox!

Although I am absolutely NOT a gamer, I completed all the levels of DragonBox Algebra 12+, mostly in my “wind down” time before bed. Yes, I did earn geek status according to my kids.

Don’t know where they got the “dislike” for Math, but I enjoyed Math & algebra, English & Spelling the most. What I’ve used the most since graduation though is English, only had to count 2 boys and that was it…..:)
