In my life this week…
Well, I can say I’ve made a valiant effort to get up earlier this week. I haven’t always been successful, but I’m cutting myself some slack since my littlest one has been sick (and sleepless). I’m finding, though, that I have to keep a balance between getting an earlier start on my day and getting enough sleep to be able to function.
In our homeschool this week…
We have had a great first week of homeschool! Everything has been going so smoothly, and it seems as though most of our curriculum choices are a good fit for us. I love that as homeschoolers we can pick and choose resources that truly work for our children!
In a few weeks I’m planning to share a little about how our family is using Mystery of History I, Apologia chemistry, and IEW Student Writing Intensive-B. Have a question or a comment about these courses? I’d love to hear from you!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We’ve stayed pretty close to home this week. We are planning to get together with a few homeschool friends around a campfire this evening, though . . . and I heard something about s’mores, too!
Things I’m working on…
I’m making notebooking pages for Keaton to use with Mystery of History–and it’s been fun!
I’m cooking…
To simplify our back-to-homeschool week, I included several slow cooker meals in our menu plan this week. I tried out two new slow cooker recipes, Chicken a la King and Crockpot Lasagna. The Chicken a la King was good, but not fantastic; I doubt that I’ll make it again. The Crockpot Lasagna smelled and tasted delicious, but some of the noodles were not completely cooked. I’m looking forward to tweaking the recipe and trying it again in the next few weeks.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Kendra got these blocks to use as an activity during homeschool time, and she and Weston LOVE them! I’m surprised at how well she does at building with them–she stacks the blocks as high as she can reach!

Sounds like a great first week!
I’m reading from http://ajoyfulmess.blogspot.com where I just posted a Crock Pot recipe we used.
Wishing you a fabulous homeschool year!
Welcome back to another year! It sounds like it went well! Sorry about the ZZZZzz! I know I’m going to be there next week when we start! ::wink:: I’ve been staying up way too late! And I want to get up around 7:00am (before the kids) to have some quiet time, get some cleaning done and start a hearty breakfast before school begins. Anyway, I hope next week goes well for you!
The crockpot lasagna sounds delicious. Do you have a recipe for that? I would love to try it in our home. Good luck on getting the sleep situation regulated!
Penny, I used this recipe from Food.com . I added a little Italian seasoning and some brown sugar, since we like a sweeter sauce. So much simpler than making lasagna!
Sounds like a great week! I love my crockpot – it is SUCH a time saver!
I’ve been trying to work on an earlier get-up time myself. Hard to do but it feels like the days go better when I do. And me and my crock pot are going to be spending a lot of time together soon… which means I’m going to be trying a bunch of new recipes, too!
Yay for a great first week. I look forward to your post about curriculum. My daughter does IEW through our co-op and really enjoys it. As for getting up early and needing sleep, I need to find that balance too! Blessings for a great year!
