In my life this week…
At the start of each summer break, I always anticipate plenty of “free time” to accomplish dozens of projects that have been on my mind all year. And when the new school year begins, I have rarely completed more than two or three things on my mental checklist. I hope I’m not the only one who spends most of the summer planning and preparing for the new homeschool year!
My favorite thing this week was…
Devin was promoted to Airman First Class in the Civil Air Patrol this week. I loved sharing in his sense of accomplishment!

Things I’m working on…
I’ve been trying to take time to teach Kaylee how to sew. This week we are working on simple skirts. Kaylee has learned to lay out the fabric, pin the pattern pieces properly, and cut out the pinned pieces. She also is doing all the seaming herself. Tomorrow we will be tackling the elastic casing for the waistband. Kaylee already has plenty of experience with hemming, so hopefully she’ll have a pretty new skirt to wear to church on Sunday!

Questions/thoughts I have…
I’d love to hear from other homeschool moms who are teaching children in a wide range of ages! I’ll be teaching six this year, in grades 11, 9, 8, 6, 3/4, and preschool.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
I am much afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy Scriptures, and engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which means are not unceasingly occupied with the Word of God must be corrupt. -Martin Luther

Go Kaylee and Devin! Congrats on both those accomplishments. And trust me – you’re NOT alone in checking off that mental list. I’m just sitting here realizing it’s the end of July and… ugh!
Devin looks very serious about his promotion! LOL Congratulations! And Kaylee – what a great skill to learn! We’re doing a little bit of that here…if only I could get the thread tension to work on our sewing machine!
Stopping by from the Homechool Mother’s Journal!
