In my life this week…
We spent part of the week passing unwelcome viruses from one person to another. All better now, thankfully!
In other news, I didn’t plan a menu this week. How frustrating that has been! And yes, I know better. Enough said.
In our homeschool this week…
I believe the kids are getting spring fever. We are so ready for school to be finished! In fact, some of the kids are voluntarily putting in Saturdays because they just want to be done already. I’ve decided it’s kind of like that whole “lame duck” thing, except that we are not involved in politics.
What’s working/not working for us…
Math-U-See is definitely working for us! In fact, it has been such a success that I have considered selling my Saxon math books. Anyone who knows me well, knows that this is a BIG DEAL! I did say considered, you understand. No promises just yet.
Things I’m working on…
Remember those skirts I was working on last week? Well, I got two of the skirts finished. I opted to hold off on making the third one, since I ran out of elastic. Here’s a peek:
Khaki Twill Skirt

Fuschia Floral Skirt

I’m reading…
I’m not getting nearly as much reading done as I would like. I am reading my Bible, though. And I have a book about the Duggar family that I’m anxious to start reading. Maybe next week?
I’m cooking…
We made yummy homemade pizza for supper tonight! Kaylee mixed up a big batch of our favorite pizza sauce, with plenty left over for the freezer.
I’m grateful for…
If I could choose only one thing to be thankful for right now, it would be the privilege of being a mother. I’m so blessed!
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Nice to meet you! I also have 7 children (ages 8-28) and was married young (17yo). And did two high school years in one to get out early! Your skirts turned out very well! You have a beautiful family.
Sounds like we have a lot in common, Laurie! And don’t you just love having seven children?
Thank you for your kind words!
Ive heard some really good things about Math-U-See
you used lovely material for your skirt
sure is a blessing being a mum
and you have a beautiful daughter
Thank you for your kind words, Jen! So nice of you to stop by.
Enjoy your weekend!
I get so frustrated with myself when I don’t have a meal plan. Meal planning takes away so much stress! I have started using Plan to Eat and last month planned the whole month out over a couple of days, that was so helpful. We are huge fans of Math U See around here. Yep, it’s such a blessing to be a mom!! Have a great weekend.
I may need to try Plan to Eat–it would be so helpful to plan a month in advance!
Thanks for stopping by today.
She is adorable and your skirts are beautiful! I have wanted to make some of my own but just haven’t gotten up the nerve yet. Maybe soon
Hope you have a wonderful weekend and hope everyone is feeling well soon!
Thanks for your kind words, Jen! I hope you’ll soon get up the nerve to sew yourself a few skirts.
Enjoy your weekend!
I sold our Saxon two years ago and never looked back we are now using Rod and Staff
I need to do some sewing myself just not finding the time
Sarah, maybe I’ll get up the courage to sell my Saxon books, too! We had used Saxon for 6 years, and I still feel like I’ve “jumped ship” somehow.
I totally understand how hard it is to find time to sew–I would never have had time myself without my daughter volunteering to babysit.
Enjoy your weekend!
Judy, I didn’t use it for as long as you but I did use K through 3rd. Once I started seeing my middle daughter crying over her math and my oldest telling me that it was horrible (I figured they are the ones using it, they need to somewhat enjoy it) I couldn’t take it anymore and I had just bought the curriculum through the 6th grade! I did find someone who wanted it all which was great and allowed me to purchase our Rod and Staff which the girls now enjoy. I was nervous at first too as Saxon was all I knew but it has been so well worth it, we are now starting our 2nd year with R&S. For me, I have to pull out machine and set it all up each time I want to sew – I don’t have available space to leave everything out all the time so that is why it’s hard for me to sew but my daughters have been asking to learn so I may just have to figure out something
Thank you for the encouragement about switching math programs! It’s been doubly hard for me, since our homeschool evaluator uses and teaches Saxon, as well. I feel like a traitor, LOL!
It really is tough to get any sewing done when you have to set the machine up each time. I hope you can find a few extra minutes for sewing now and then!
I love the fuschia skirt! And the baby is so sweet! Did you make that outfit too? Very talented! When I had my girl, I always said that I would make her some dresses…and never have. She’s 10 now! LOL
I’m in the same curriculum “boat” too, but with Apologia Elementary Sciences. We’ve enjoyed them over the years, but the kids want a change…and I found a science book that incorporates most of the topics covered in ALL of the Apologia books! (But I’m waiting to see how the NEW book goes over next year!)
No menu planning here…usually.
I know that I would probably save grocery money and make evenings easier if I had a plan ahead of time! LOL
Thanks, Jessy–you’re so kind! I actually did NOT make the baby’s dress; I found it at the Children’s Place for only $8.00 (shhh. . . don’t tell!). I didn’t get to sew much for my first daughter, so I am determined to make some time soon to sew for my little one!
Do you mind sharing what science book you are switching to? I’d love to use Apologia with my 2 younger boys, but they both love their PACEs, so I’ll not rock the boat.
Prentice Hall Life Science. A 800+ TRADITIONAL textbook. LOL The kids like all the pictures, graphs, etc. and it’s easy for ME to assess (as there are free on-line assessments). we’re going to NOTEBOOK the information though rather than the traditional questions-and-answers.
Thanks, Jessy!
Oh my goodness that’s a cute photo. Your daughter, I’m guessing? Love the bonnet. I think we have a little spring fever here, too; it’s just that time of year!
Thanks so much, Jamie! Yes, she is my baby girl.
I actually made the bonnet for my older daughter when she was a baby.
(And I have decided that spring fever is much better than the Christmas countdown, LOL!)
Thanks for stopping by!
I was sick this week, too. =(
Thank you for the link to the pizza sauce!
You’re welcome, Amber! Hope you’re feeling better by now–there seems to be an abundance of viruses going around right now.
Thanks for visiting!
My DD and DH had a nasty virus too. Thankfully neither my son or I caught it.
Thanks for the link to the pizza sauce:) Your skirts are wonderful and that baby girl-WOW! Shei s SO adorable.
PS-I LOVE Saxon too!
Oh yes, spring fever here as well! And your skirts are beautiful!
It’s encouraging to hear that my family is not the only one experiencing spring fever!
And thank you for your kind words–it’s always fun to get new clothes!
Yes, spring fever has set in here, too, along with highs in the mid-80′s! That warm weather makes mama want to just go outside and play! Math U See has worked so well for us for 6 years! Some friends were making me feel like we needed to switch to Saxon earlier in the year, but the kids don’t want to make any changes with our math! You have such a sweet baby girl, too! Just stopping by from THMJ!
Rachel, it’s so encouraging to hear that MUS is working well for you after many years! I hear so many people saying that it’s “too easy,” but really I think it just seems easier because my children are actually understanding math now.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
yes – spring fever! My boys want outside all the time (have enjoyed it before it gets roasting hot in FL !
Glad we’re not the only ones experiencing spring fever! We are having gorgeous weather here in PA as well, so I may as well let them enjoy it–and chalk it up as one of the benefits of homeschooling!
Thanks for visiting–it is much appreciated!
Hi Mom! Babycakes is sooo cute in that pic!!!
You know I agree with ya, girl!
